Sometimes it may be difficult to find a good job as a nanny. Of course, this depends on where you live and what you experience is. When looking for nanny vacancies, there are several tips that you may wish to consider.

Newspaper Ads

You will want to check your local classified ads every day. Do not wait until the Sunday edition comes out, as it may be too late. People may run an ad for a week or so. However, they may have the job filled within one or two days.

It is also a good idea to place an ad in your local newspaper. Make sure that you mention any qualifications that you have for the job. Keep the ad short, but make sure that you have your contact information in the ad. You might also consider expanding your ads to surrounding newspapers. This can help your ad reach a great deal more people.

Online Job Searches

Searching online is the fastest way to find babysitting jobs. In some cases, this may be a good idea. All you have to do is go to the website and search for the job. Place the area that you are interested in, and you may find several possibilities. You may find anything from full time positions to summer nanny jobs.

Remember that the more flexible you are with your search, the more jobs it will turn up. If you place one city in the search you may not get much. Try placing a state or put the country that you live in, in the search. These types of job searches are free and easy to do.

Many of these job sites will have additional tools for you to use. You may receive tips for writing a good resume and you may be able to market yourself there too. There may also be important tips for what to do during an interview and forming a good job hunting strategy.

Placement Agencies

You may wish to register with a nanny placement agency. This may give you the opportunity to find jobs before they are offered to the public. This may a very good place to find higher paying jobs, also. People with higher incomes often register with these types of services.

Training

If you have the time and resources, it may be a good idea to get additional training. The right training can make it much easier to get a job. Some schools offer training in child care and child psychology. You may also be able to take college courses that will make your resume look better.

Summary

When looking at nanny vacancies, do not forget your local newspaper. Check ads and consider placing your own ad. If there is a large newspaper nearby, consider using it, to reach more people. Online job sites can be another good source of jobs. Be flexible with your area search, and you may find a lot of positions. Placement agencies are another good source for jobs. You may find higher paying jobs with an agency. It is also a good idea to take more training, as it can make it easier to get a job.

Getting Jobs With The Highest Nanny Salary

Working in child care can sometimes be very difficult, but it can also be a very rewarding experience. If you are good at what you do and enjoy your work, you deserve the highest pay that is possible. Here are some things that you can do to get the best nanny salary.

Checking Your Work Resume

It is very important to have an impressive work resume, to find the highest paying jobs available. A resume may not be too important for a summer nanny job, but it is for full time position. It may be a good idea to invest in resume software or a resume writing service. The money that you spend on the resume, may pay big dividends in the future.

Maybe you cannot afford to hire a resume service, and if not, at least do some research. Find out what needs to be in a good resume. Most people know to mention references and experience. However, you also need to mention things like training and education. You might have a college degree, and it can make you more desirable. Even courses that you take in high school can make a difference, if they are related to child care.

Employment Markets

Where you live makes a big difference in your pay. If one is willing to relocate to a larger city, it can mean much more income. Take the time to study pay rates in different areas. Remember that you will be living there for some time. If it is a cold climate and it does not agree with you, the extra pay may not be worth it.

Offer More Services

Many workers in child care will only do that kind of work. You may able to get better jobs with higher pay, if you offer more services. Maybe you are willing to do some kind of housework or perhaps you can take care of pets. This will mean extra work, but it will also mean extra pay. This way, you can ask for higher than top wages because you offer more services.

Registering with an Agency

When you register with nanny agencies you have a great deal more opportunities. Your resume will be seen by many more people. Not only that, everyone that sees it will be interested in hiring you. Some of the best paying jobs are available through agencies, as they often get clientele with more disposable income. People that make more money can afford to pay more for child care.

You will need to have all of your references together if you go to an agency. Also, they may do an extensive background check, so it is important not to hide any information from them. You must be completely honest during the interview.

Summary

When you are good at your job, you should be making top money. If you want to get the highest nanny salary available, make sure that you have an impressive resume. You may have to hire a service to write your resume, but it may be well worth the money. You may also make more money if you are willing to relocate. When you offer more services, you can expect more pay. For example, you may also take care of pets or do housework. When you register with an agency, you may have the best chance for the higher paying jobs, too.

Ways To Find Babysitting Jobs

Many people are making money with babysitting. It is a good way to earn income by working only a few hours per week. Students and housewives can easily make money this way to pay bills and buy things that they want. There are many different methods to find babysitting jobs, and here are a few to look at.

Creating a Resume

It may not seem important, but a good resume can help you find babysitting and summer nanny jobs with good nanny salary. Talk to parents that you work for and ask for a letter of recommendation. If you do good work, there should be no problem in obtaining these things. If you have any kind of child care training, make sure that you mention that in your resume. For example, you may have a high school credit in psychology, and this is worth mentioning. Perhaps you are interested in child care and have training in child development and related subjects. Maybe you are an experienced parent. These are very important items to add to your resume.

Be sure that you include phone numbers of past employers. You will need to check with the parents first, before using that information. If they agree, then it may be best to have a separate sheet of paper for phone numbers.

Placing Newspaper Ads

It may seem simple, but many people fail to place ads in their local newspaper. Parents may need someone to watch their children and not know who to contact. If they do not know of you, there is no way that they can contact you.

Printing Fliers

The personal computer and printer makes flier printing very easy and economical. If you wish to save money on ink, you might consider using a copy machine to make copies of your flier. Here is information that you should put on the flier.

1. Announce that you are available to watch children. Make sure and mention what areas that you can work in. Some people may wish to stay in their own neighborhoods for convenience.

2. Mention your qualifications and experience. For example, if you have been doing this for 5 years, then put that in the flier. Also explain that you have references that can be checked out. This may qualify you for higher pay, if people know that you are experienced and qualified.

3. Make sure that you put down what hours you are available to work. If they are different on the weekends, then make sure and mention that also.

4. Place your name and phone number on the flier. You also may wish to put an email address down, too. The more contacts you have, the better your odds of someone contacting you.

Flier Placement

Put your fliers in public places that have bulletin boards. Some people like to cut several strips at the bottom. Place your name and contact information and what you do, on each strip. This may make it easier for people to contact you.

Summary

One good way to find babysitting jobs is to place ads in your local newspaper. Sit down and write up your work resume, this may help you get more jobs. You also might consider printing up your own fliers. Make sure that you mention your references, qualifications, and experience on the fliers. Place them in public places with bulletin boards. You may get more calls than you expect.

Nanny Jobs In New York

December 12th, 2010 |

Finding a job in child care can sometimes be difficult. However, this depends on where you live. If you are looking for nanny jobs in New York, you may not have much trouble finding them. In fact, you may need to find ways to separate the good from the not so good. Here are some different types of positions that you may be considering.

Nanny Jobs In New York

Live out

This means that you do not live in the house with the children. You will be expected to have your own source of transportation. Of course if this is in the city, you may be able to use the subway. Your pay may be higher with a live out position as there is no room and board included in the nanny salary. If you already have a place to stay, this can be a very good thing. However, if you need to relocate, a live out job may not be in your best interest.

Live in

In this position, you live in the house with the kids. You will have your own bedroom and access to the rest of the house. This is a good position for people that are relocating or people that do not have a place to stay.

Rent can be very expensive and if you get a good salary from the job, you may be able to make a good living. Sometimes people expect a little more from child care workers that live in. This may be use to the fact that they are providing you with a place to live.

Temporary

There may be temporary positions like summer nanny jobs. These can be very good for students, as it is a good way to earn tuition money for college. These jobs may be live in or live out. Most people will be looking for one particular type of job, but this is not always the case.

Extras

Some parents will ask more of their child care workers than others. This is something that you must discuss in the interview. For example, you may be expected to pick children up from school and help with homework. Some people may ask you to do housework, also. These things all need to be understood and agreed to before you take the job.

To Use an Agency

You may wish to register with a domestic help agency. If you live in a big city, this may not be necessary, but it can have advantages for you. Some of the better jobs may be available this way. Wealthy and high profile people may not wish to put an ad in the paper. However, they will use an agency to find the right child care worker for their children.

Summary

It is not always easy to find a good child care job. However, finding nanny jobs in New York may not be so difficult. You will need to choose between live in and live out jobs. If you already have a place to live, the live out job may be best. If you are relocating, the live in job may be the best position. It should not be hard to find summer nanny jobs and they are a good choice for students. Make sure that you know the job duties before you sign up, and consider using a domestic agency for the better paying jobs.

Hiring A Nanny

Nine Things To Remember When Hiring A Nanny

Hiring a nanny may be a new experience for you. This is a very important task, as this person will be trusted with your young child. There are several things to consider when you bring this person into your household. Here are nine tips that may help.

Hiring A Nanny

Hiring A Nanny Photo by stevengatto via Flickr

1. It is very important to check all references before hiring a nanny. Do not assume anything when it comes to employees. They may look nice and trustworthy. However, it is vital that you completely check this person out. Do not take any shortcuts, as it may take some time to find the right person.

2. Conduct a complete and thorough interview. Make sure you know the exact reason that this person left their last job. Find out everything that you can about the prospective employee. Ask about personal likes and dislikes. Make sure that this person loves kids and is not simply doing it for the money. Find out if they want a full time position or are only looking for summer nanny jobs.

3. Do you want childcare or a housekeeper? In most cases, you will not be able to have both. When someone watches a child full time, it may be too much to expect them to also clean house. However, it is reasonable to expect people to clean up after themselves.

4. Make sure that you go over all job duties before you hire someone. It may be a good idea to ask her or him about the last job. Find out what duties they expect to perform and what they are qualified to do. Do not leave any of this to chance.

5. Discuss all salary matters before you hire anyone. For example, you may offer a salary amount and it may be accepted. However, make sure that you are specific on any tax deductions. You should offer amounts that are based on take home pay.

6. Make certain that you discuss hours and days off. Do not forget about holidays, too. It may be best to have a schedule already written down.

7. Be clear about your house policies. For example, do you allow your employee to have any guests in your home? If so, under what circumstances is this allowed? These things are important to discuss ahead of time. Do not assume that your new employee already knows certain things.

8. Put all important job features on paper. This way, there will not be any uncertainties or surprises. Let your prospective employee read and sign the agreement.

9. Discuss child raising philosophies. You have certain ideas as to how to raise your child. Make sure that the nanny knows what those ideas and philosophies are. Also, make certain that everyone agrees on that philosophy.

Summary

Hiring a nanny is a very important issue, so do not leave anything to chance. Check all references and do a complete interview. Go over all job duties ahead of time, and discuss all salary issues. Make sure that everyone is clear on hours, days off, and holidays. Be clear about your child rearing philosophy and get everything down on paper, so there will be no surprises. This can insure that you will have a good working relationship with your nanny.

Finding A Great Baby Sitter

September 8th, 2010 |

There are a lot of people, mostly young students that are applying for summer nanny jobs. But you heave to be careful when choosing a babysitter for your little one. Here are some tips on how to choose a perfect babysitter.

Finding A Great Baby Sitter

Finding A Great Baby Sitter Photo by faster panda via Flickr

Do you want to find baby sitter applicants? Then you have a lot to do and a lot of places to start looking. A simple ad posted on a community board can attract potential sitters from all walks of life. The real trouble is in finding the baby sitter who is just right for your family. One way to discover a good sitter is to conduct a comprehensive interview with applicants. Here are some tips to help you conduct a good interview.

Make Her Comfortable
An interview can reveal about you and how you deal with your employees or nannies. Even if you are interviewing applicants, you need to be more than just a potential employer. Conduct your interviews in a nice part of your home that is neither too cozy nor too cold. Make sure she has a comfortable chair to sit on and there is nothing potentially irritating like sunlight, insects or noisy children. Taking the effort to make her feel at home is not just a form of courtesy. It is also an effective way of breaking down her guard. It is in these unguarded moments that you get to know more about people and their backgrounds.

Break the Ice
The more comfortable your applicant it, the more you will be able to learn about how she handles kids. One way is to start asking questions that are not threatening. Begin the interview by asking an applicant to tell you a little bit about herself. Ask her where she is from and if she has any younger siblings.

Your nanny’s goals in life will also reveal much about her priorities and about how she sees her job as a nanny. You can also ask her a little bit about her education and goals in life. These questions will get your applicant talking and will provide the starting point for more serious questions. You do have to keep in mind though that there are lines that should be drawn. Do not be too invasive about private matters.
Ask the Obvious

Most likely you will find baby sitter applicants with ready resumes. Even so, you do have to ask questions about what is already obviously outlined in resumes. Ask her to expound about her previous baby sitting experiences. She may be able to reveal more about why she likes to baby sit and if she has learned anything from past experiences. This will help you find out if the applicant has interests that go beyond monetary rewards.
Ask Situational Questio 1000 ns

Ask about emergency situations. Most parents prefer to hire sitters who can react quickly to situations. In other words parents prefer applicants who know exactly what to do in any given situation. You can test how well an applicant can handle potential situations by asking her what she would do when these situations come up. You could ask her questions which you think are likely to happen especially with your child. If your child has an allergy for example, you can ask the applicant what she would do if your child suddenly had an allergy attack.

Be Observant
Turn on your parent instincts and keep an open eye on the nanny applicant. There are more ways than one to find out about a person. One other way is to observe non-verbal language. This is especially helpful if you want to find out if your applicant is telling the truth. Watch for signs of nervousness or uneasiness when you ask questions about her background and past experiences.

Its not always easy to find and hire the perfect baby sitter for your child or children. Your search could take a lot of time but the task is not impossible if you know where and how to start.

Hire The Perfect Baby Sitter

September 2nd, 2010 |

The summer is here and summer nanny jobs are widely available all across the country. But not all babysitters are credible. Most of them are student just looking for an opportunity to earn extra money.

Hire The Perfect Baby Sitter

Hire The Perfect Baby Sitter Photo by Liz Henry via Flickr

Child Care is often at the forefront of many parents’ minds. Because there are occasions when everyone needs to leave the home, and it is important to have a support network in place that can be called upon to assist if the need arises. Often, the people who are called for child minding are family members, which works great in general.

However, family are not always available to help; and so it is important to have a network available outside of that. This is where hired childcare professionals, or baby sitters can step in to assist. (If you have a very young child then check out http://www.babyaids.com for more resources to help you)

There are certain things that should be considered when choosing a baby sitter. First and foremost, the baby sitter should be credible — meaning that he or she should have a good record with past employers. Second is that certain character traits and characteristics should be present in the baby sitter.

For example, they should have at least a general knowledge of how to run a household. And being sensible about it, common sense is a good asset here! Ask yourself the question, ‘Do I want this person in charge of MY child?’. If the answer is anything other then a definite YES. Move on. You can always get another babysitter.

And of course he or she should be patient when it comes to dealing with kids because that is really the bulk of his or her work.

Most parents prefer to be hands-on with their kids. Raising kids is a difficult job, but still parents want to do it themselves because they feel like it is the only way to make sure that they can properly train their children to grow up in the way that ideally they would want them to be. And also, children are fun! Why should the babysitter get all the joy, fun and abundance that looking after children can bring?

However some parents have no choice because both of them have to work to fend for the family so either they leave their kids with other family members, friendly neighbors or else hire babysitters to help out. This is not neccessarily an ideal solution. But sometimes it is the only option.

A baby sitter is often a stranger (at least at first), so careful thought should be given by the family about this decisio 1000 n from the time they say yes to the idea, to the actual choosing of the baby sitter.

It is also advisable to ask around people who have past experiences with baby sitters and child care so that you can have an idea how to set your criteria and how to actually find and eventually hire someone that will suit you. Mothers groups and baby clinics can also be a good source of advice in this area.

After the initial research you are now ready to do interviews for possible prospects. During the interview, you should not only concentrate on the resume or the answers but you should more importantly, watch out for the body language because this will tell you a lot about the person. How comfortable they feel with you, but also with your child. Ask routine questions but also come up with questions that will make you get to know more about the morals or the personality of the one applying. You don’t want to come home to an impromptu party they decided to organise at you house! ;)

Finally, after choosing a baby sitter, make sure that you do some advance preparations like giving the babysitter a tour of the places in the house where he or she will be working, machines he or she will be operating, list of numbers to call in case of emergencies and talk to him or her about any special instructions you might want to give.

Also, set down the family policies with him or her on specific behaviour, acceptable punishments for naughty behaviour etc. These are simple things, but making it clear at the beginning will mean that you don’t have any future problems.

Hiring a baby sitter allows parents to have a greater focus on their jobs. But during the first days of the baby sitters tenure at your home, one of the parents should watch how the baby sitter is during active duty even for just a few hours. This is a sort of transition time and it is also a way of still being involved with your kids despite the fact that you already have a baby sitter.

There are many good babysitters around that know what are the babysitter’s responsibilities and hopefully you will find the right one for your family and child care needs. Finding good childcare will not only free up your time and give you more flexibility, it will also add a very valuable team member to your family in the form of a baby sitter. So it is worth persisting and finding that special someone to take care of the people you LOVE.

The Babysitter’s Responsibilities

August 26th, 2010 |

Nowadays, a quality babysitter is hard to find. There are thousands of young people, mostly high school students, who want to land on summer nanny jobs just to earn some extra money.

The Babysitter's Responsibilities

The Babysitter’s Responsibilities Photo by Thomas Rockstar via Flickr

This flood of babysitters carries both advantages and disadvantages. A babysitter’s job is no less different than a nanny’s, except that the babysitter will only provide childcare services occasionally, when you need it.

The babysitter may only tend to your child for a few hours, but you know too well how much is a few hours with a child. Young children, mostly, can be very demanding and can cost a lot of patience. It’s important that pre-screening and background check of a babysitter has been made prior to hiring her.

Some people baby-sit for the money. Although this is one of the compelling reasons to find a job, you need to identify whether a candidate has grown a love for children. This keeps the babysitter from finding the job too mechanical – and you don’t want your child to be treated like a robot.

Child Safety
The babysitter is responsible for making sure the child is safe while the parents are away. The degree of child safety to be established will depend on the age of the child.

Toddlers and pre-school children may be very interested in chewing anything, edible or not. Thus, it is the babysitter’s job to keep play areas safe from choking and other accidents hazards.

Working within parental guidelines
The top priority of the babysitter should be to care for the well being of your child. Although the time spent in caring for the child is far less than that of a nanny, the babysitter still needs to work within the guidelines of parents.

There might be times when a babysitter will be allowed to assert her opinions in child-rearing, babysitters need to respect the concerns of parents, which is the foundation of specific family guidelines.

Respect time and compensate overtimes
Finding a babysitter through agency. Respect the time you agreed upon with the babysitter. Babysitters normally work for a minimum of 4 hours each day, but do make the effort to call home in the event that you’ll need to stay out longer. And remember to compensate the overtime hours. Overtimes are paid 1.5 times higher than regular hourly rates.

Babysitting has greatly changed, as more moms require babysitters during the day. This 1000 is a far cry from the usual evenings of watching television and eating chips while the child is asleep. Hence, establishing the responsibilities of the babysitter helps avoid issues with your favorite babysitter.

Finding A Babysitter Through Agency

August 19th, 2010 |

The summer and the time of vacations is here. A lot of parents are working and can not find the time to care for their kids during summer holiday. Therefore this time of year a demand for summer nanny jobs is high.

Finding A Babysitter Through Agency

Finding A Babysitter Through Agency Photo by kthypryn via Flickr

There are some tasks in the world that we feel comfortable doing ourselves and there are other tasks that we feel are better left to the professionals. One job every American family has to accomplish every year is filing their taxes. Some individuals purchase tutorials or take classes in order to learn how to file them on their own.

However, many others refuse to risk it and instead hire an accountant to do the work for them. Other people enjoy doing the handyman work around their homes; others simply feel safer having a contractor or a plumber fix everything. When it comes to finding the right childcare assistant, some parents do all the advertising, interviewing, and hiring themselves. Others, however, would much prefer to hire an agency babysitter.

An agency is a company that matches professional babysitters with interested families. The degree to which agencies are involved in the process varies greatly from agency to agency. If you chose to go this route, then you need to research which company is right for you. Some agencies are much more “hands-off” then others. These will read over your application and, according to your family’s needs, give you a list of potential babysitters on their roster that would work best.

The rest of the work is in your hands. You then need to interview each candidate in order to find the person you want to hire. On the other end of the spectrum, a different agency might do every step of the process for you from compiling a list of candidates to narrowing them down to the one person that they think will work out best for your family.

The most obvious downside of hiring an agency babysitter, of course, is the cost. Most agencies do very thorough background checks on all of their sitters and some even pay for childcare courses so that their sitters are the best in the business. This extensive research, however, does cost the parents. There are application fees, membership and processing fees, and placement fees. These costs are before you even pay the babysitter herself for her services!

And for that reason, before you hire a babysitter it is advisable to get a list of babysitter rates of your area to know exactly what kind of costs you can expect.

Therefore deciding to hire an agency can be extremely expensive, but you know that these individuals are all thoroughly trained childcare assistants. If you are looking for a long-term or a live-in nanny, an agency is usually a good choice. If you need someone to watch you children on a 1000 Saturday night, it is better to find a sitter yourself and avoid all those fees!

List Of Babysitter Rates

August 12th, 2010 |

A good way to start looking for a babysitter is to get a list of babysitter rates in your area. This is especially true for parents who are looking for summer nanny jobs services for their budget.

List Of Babysitter Rates

List Of Babysitter Rates Photo by matsber via Flickr

Probably the best place to start looking for the ideal babysitter rate for your family is the World Wide Web. You may start looking for “referral” sites and online babysitting agencies where you can find the best rates from potential sitters as well as tips from previous clients.

Generally, you’ll be expected to pay a referral fee in addition to paying your sitter. You could review babysitter profiles, or you can post an ad online and wait for candidates to contact you and send you their picture, resume summary and babysitting rates. There are some pretty good sites out there that even refund you in full if they cannot find a babysitter in your area who offers the rate you are looking for.

The general rate charged by babysitters is $15 for one to two children. If you have more than two kids, sitters generally ask for an extra fee per hour (usually $3 to $5 per child). Families and sitters settle an agreement based on the pay and other terms of employment.

The babysitter rate will also really depend on other factors. So another way to find a list of the rates you’re specifically looking for is to base your search on the sitter’s age, level of experience, and working days.

Younger sitters (i.e. 13 to 16 years old) often charge about $4 per hour. An older sitter (i.e. 17 years old and above) would generally charge about $10 or more per hour. Any additional qualifications or experience and special working days (i.e. holidays) could raise the rate by a couple of dollars.
