Find A Good Babysitter
The summer is approaching and you need to find a good babysitter to take care of your child while you are away. A lot of students apply for summer nanny jobs mainly to earn extra money during holidays.
Finding a babysitter can be stressful but, to some, the time and effort allotted can be worth it when they have found the right babysitter that they can trust their child with. So what are the qualities that to look for in a babysitter?
Safety Skills – Based on recent statistics, major causes of death in children aged 1 year and up are accidents at home. It is crucial that a babysitter should know good safety skills.
There are some babysitters who completed first aid training and CPR classes. Let the potential babysitter bring his or her certificates during the interview if there are any.
Good References – These may come from families they used to work with. Phone in those families and ask if they have observed any quirks that the babysitter has such as late arrivals, dressing inappropriately or passing on unreliable stories or feedbacks about the children.
Experienced – It is important that your prospect has already done babysitting jobs. It is also a plus when the babysitter works with a family for a long period of time compared to babysitting sporadically in less than a month with different families.
Mature – Maturity doesn’t really have to concur with age but leaving your child to a highschool babysitter for more than 4 hours might not be good idea.
A mature babysitter must show sound judgment and appropriate responses on any given situation.
Other Qualities to look out are non-smoker, pleasant persona, neat and orderly.
Lastly, find a babysitter that’s right for you by going with your gut. Ask yourself this question: "Can you trust this stranger with your kid?"
