Nowadays, a quality babysitter is hard to find. There are thousands of young people, mostly high school students, who want to land on summer nanny jobs just to earn some extra money.

This flood of babysitters carries both advantages and disadvantages. A babysitter’s job is no less different than a nanny’s, except that the babysitter will only provide childcare services occasionally, when you need it.
The babysitter may only tend to your child for a few hours, but you know too well how much is a few hours with a child. Young children, mostly, can be very demanding and can cost a lot of patience. It’s important that pre-screening and background check of a babysitter has been made prior to hiring her.
Some people baby-sit for the money. Although this is one of the compelling reasons to find a job, you need to identify whether a candidate has grown a love for children. This keeps the babysitter from finding the job too mechanical – and you don’t want your child to be treated like a robot.
Child Safety
The babysitter is responsible for making sure the child is safe while the parents are away. The degree of child safety to be established will depend on the age of the child.
Toddlers and pre-school children may be very interested in chewing anything, edible or not. Thus, it is the babysitter’s job to keep play areas safe from choking and other accidents hazards.
Working within parental guidelines
The top priority of the babysitter should be to care for the well being of your child. Although the time spent in caring for the child is far less than that of a nanny, the babysitter still needs to work within the guidelines of parents.
There might be times when a babysitter will be allowed to assert her opinions in child-rearing, babysitters need to respect the concerns of parents, which is the foundation of specific family guidelines.
Respect time and compensate overtimes

Babysitters normally work for a minimum of 4 hours each day, but do make the effort to call home in the event that you’ll need to stay out longer. And remember to compensate the overtime hours. Overtimes are paid 1.5 times higher than regular hourly rates.
